Spaceship Earth Music By Owen Pallett
Directed by filmmaker and documentarian Matt Wolf, Spaceship Earth tells the true story of 8 intrepid scientists who quarantined themselves inside a replica of Earth’s ecosystem for two years in 1991. The group set out to achieve their ambitious and utopian vision of life in perfect balance, isolated from the rest of the world, yet complete with a wide variety of plants, animals, an ocean and their own atmosphere. What could possibly go wrong?
The fascinating documentary features a stunning original score composed by Canadian composer, violinist, keyboardist, and vocalist Owen Pallett. Known for their critically acclaimed solo recordings as well as collaborations with artists like Arcade Fire and Frank Ocean, Spaceship Earth is just the latest addition to Owen’s growing resume of work in the world of film & TV (Her, The Box, Fourteen Actors Acting)
Of the soundtrack Owen says, “This is my second collaboration with Matt Wolf, after 2019’s Recorder: The Marion Stokes Project. The film Spaceship Earth chronologically spans from 1960 to present day— it is serious, it is comedic, it is retro, it is futuristic, it is scientific and it is highly human. It is also distinctly American. As a result, I was inspired by 60s sci-fi film scores, Nino Rota, as well as American 20th century music— John Adams and Aaron Copland.”
