Years of carrying out death row executions have taken a toll on prison warden Bernadine Williams (Alfre Woodard). As she prepares to execute another inmate, Bernadine must confront the psychological and emotional demons her job creates, ultimately connecting her to the man she is sanctioned to kill.

A powerful exploration of the harsh realities of capital punishment, Chinonye Chukwu’s Sundance Grand Jury Prize-winning drama Clemency features a stunning performance by Alfre Woodward alongside composer Kathryn Bostic‘s beautifully dark original score. Also featured on the soundtrack is the gorgeous original blues ballad “Slow Train,” which Kathryn wrote and performed specifically for the film.
