Ironically enough, Emmy Award-winning composer and pianist Kris Bowers’ film-scoring career started with a word of praise from Aretha Franklin. And now, 10 years later, Bowers’ career has come full circle as he composed the original score for Respect! The film finds Bowers utilizing his background as a classically trained pianist, and the resulting 10-track collection is a beautifully poignant companion to Aretha Franklin’s onscreen journey to stardom. Respect makes its debut in theaters Friday, August 13.
